Mr Nosik's Classes

Who am I?

Hi, my name is Richard Nosik. I teach Geometry and 8th Grade Math at Sage Valley Middle School in Nampa, Idaho. On this site you will find information of use to my students and their parents. I seek to make this site as useful as possible. Currently I am offering access to textbooks online, videos of class lectures, lesson plans and assignment lists. This site is currently under construction. If you have any trouble with this site or have any suggestions please contact me at rick.nosik@vallivue.org.

I have taught since 1991 and my experience includes eight years of high school teaching, including Consumer Math, PreAlgebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, PreCalculus, Physics, Intro to Computers, Keyboarding, Computer Applications, Computer Programming and Computer Hardware. Since then, I have learned that I love middle school the best. I find the students to be much more fun to teach. I have taught 6th Grade PreAlgebra, 7th Grade Math, 8th Grade Math, Algebra I and Geometry, and 6th through 8th grade GT (Gifted and Talented) at the middle school level. I also have taught for IDLA (Idaho Digital Learning Academy). I have taught both Geometry and Algebra II online. While still a college student I tutored College Algebra, Statistics and Calculus. I also taught high school math in Majuro, Marshall Islands for a year in 1987/88.

When I'm not teaching I love to get my exercise by swimming, playing volleyball and baseball and playing with my five-year-old daughter, Abi. I fill my hobby time by drawing and painting (I love to do portraits), singing, playing classical guitar (I taught classical guitar for Pacific Union College for a year while I was a student there.), and arranging music.

My Objective as a Teacher

Today's work environment is nothing like what it was when I was growing up. Gone are the days when people worked for the same company their entire lives. Promotion happens now through movement from one institution to another, rather than through the ranks of a single business. Technology has made the workplace ever-changing. Workers are expected to learn quickly and to throw away old knowledge when it is no longer useful. Some jobs disappear and completely new ones are created. The student that has learned to learn and to keep on learning is the worker that will succeed.

It is my goal to instill in all of my students an ability, willingness and desire to learn all the time.
